Allow me to introduce myself: I’m Cheyenne and I’m the new intern here at Walkie Talkie. One thing you should know about me is that I don’t like to be unprepared. That’s why I decided to watch The Devil Wears Prada on the night before my first internship. Big mistake!
For anyone who has not seen it, the movie revolves around a recent graduate, a basic bitch of sorts, who starts her job at Vogue (although they call it Runway). She’s surrounded by beautiful people, beautiful things and a thousand girls would kill to be in her shoes. Sounds good, right? Wrong! As it turns out, her boss is cruel, her colleagues are vicious and no one around her eats anything. That’s when I started to panic.
Luckily, my first day was nothing like hers. I was welcomed with open arms, my colleagues were kind and we all had lunch together. The office is gorgeous and there’s lots of great goodies lying around (think: Fujifilm, Playmobil, Stabilo, …). Still, I did learn some valuable lessons from TDWP:
1. You’re going to make mistakes. That’s fine, just learn from them and do better next time.
2. When in doubt, rely on your gut feeling.
3. Always be yourself. You can pretend to be someone you’re not, but in the end it will only make you unhappy. You do you!
Mind you, I’m still very nervous and I don’t feel completely at ease yet, but great things take time. One thing is certain: I can’t wait to learn the ropes and go out a little bit wiser than I came in.
