Some spare time during your Easter holidays? Go and see the brand-new film of Hilde Van Mieghem!
Apart from being the name of the film, ’Sprakeloos’ was also our reaction after watching it. Despite the movie’s weighty thematic – a parent’s health starts to fail – it is filled with genuine beauty.
Tom Lanoye, one of Flanders’ most important contemporary authors, published the story 8 years ago with his alter ego ‘Jan Meerman’ as leading character. The hommage to his mother became a best-selling novel and a film adaptation had to be made. Actress and director Hilde Van Mieghem gave the book her own twist by changing the narrative perspective to the son. Hilde could count on the top of Belgian actors to play the role of their lifetime (e.g. Stany Crets, Marie Vinck, Flor Decleir…). But at the heart of the film lies an unrivalled performance of Viviane De Muynck, playing the mother.
On the 6th of March, more than 2000 people came to Sint-Niklaas to witness the grand premiere in the presence of the cast. National tv news and various media outlets covered the story live on the red carpet.
