MeDirect

MeDirect is a Belgian bank that offers savings and investment products with the aim of giving everyone the opportunity to make the most of their money. They came to us with the following clear goals:

  • To boost their presence in earned media and inform the general public that they have a choice to obtain a better return for their savings
  • To shift perception on MeDirect from being a “small bank” and “price breaker” to one of the fastest growing online banks in Belgium
  • Position the bank and more importantly its CEO as thought leader when it comes to general bank topics, savings & investments and challenging big banks to offer more competitive interest rates.

For MeDirect, we cover both the in-depth financial economical topics as well as lighter stories such as a great place to work, money tips when travelling, interviews with MeDirect employees about non-banking related topics, … We also give general press guidance and media advice, as well as host media trainings for spokespeople within the bank. Next to product and other updates to ensure an always on approach for the brand, our strategy is one of first mover PR – where we always aim to come out on top – both with the brand and with the CEO.

We profiled MeDirect Bank as thé one to watch. Interviews on radio, in print and online helped to reinforce their position as the biggest challenger of big banks, by giving customers control over their money and giving them a very competitive interest rate.

As soon as the European Central Bank went on an interest rate hike, we claimed the first mover advantage among banks by communicating that MeDirect had also increased its interest rates on several products three times. In doing so, MeDirect continuously proved that it wants the best for its clients.

As this topic developed, we ensured that MeDirect was unavoidably present in nation-wide media, and claimed many headlines. By doing so, we managed to break the threshold of more niche financial news and claimed mass media coverage in popular consumer media titles such as VTM in prime time, MNM & StuBru news, Het Laatste Nieuws, Het Nieuwsblad, Le Soir, La Libre Belgique, 7sur7.be and RTBF.

“This had a huge impact, our organic website visits peaked every time we sent out a press release surrounding the increased interest rates. And direct client acquisition followed. During 2023, MeDirect saw its clientele increase with 25%, breaking through the 100.000 client barrier” — CEO Alain Moreau.

We further banked heavily on positioning Alain Moreau as the new CEO of MeDirect Belgium. To ensure he became the thought leader for media when it comes to democratising savings, we made optimal use of his vocal and opinionated nature to drive the discussion in broader media, ensuring a maximum coverage while giving the bank a face.
